In the Incoterms 2020, which is the currently valid version, eleven different conditions are defined. However, only two Incoterms are important for e-commerce: DDP and DAP. What do Swiss online retailers need to know?
The seller is responsible for arranging carriage and for delivering the goods, ready for unloading from the arriving means of transport, at the named place. (An important difference from Delivered at Place Unloaded DPU.) […] DPU is the only Incoterms rule that requires the seller to unload goods at destination. The seller should therefore ensure that it is in a position to organise unloading at the named place. Should the parties intend the seller not to bear the risk and cost of unloading, the DPU rule should be avoided and DAP should be used instead. 2020-10-19 DAP (Delivered At Place) DPU (Delivered Place Unloaded) DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) Seller Customs Loading Port Transport Port Customs Unloading Buyer SEA FREIGHT ZOLL DOUANE ZOLL DOUANE Carriage Named Place Named Place Carriage Risk Cost Insurance All information without guarantee. “Recipient” is generally the default setting (aka, shipping DAP). Incoterms® are international terms of trade which define the arrangements that the merchants (buyer and seller) have agreed. The three-letter Incoterms® describe the responsibilities, costs and risks associated with the delivery of goods by sellers to buyers. Delivered-at-place (DAP) is an international trade term used to describe a deal in which a seller agrees to pay all costs and suffer any potential losses of moving goods sold to a specific location. DAP can help buyers manage cash flow and inventory, especially for expensive items that require routine reordering from sellers.
Selecting this option indicates that the shipper or account holder incurs the full costs of the shipment, including any duties or taxes that might be incurred from customs. Delivered at Place (DAP) Commonly referred to as Duties and Taxes Unpaid (DTU) at DHL Express. The Incoterms are updated in order to simplify usages and remove obsolete terms. Delivered-at-place was one of those simplifications, as the definition applies regardless of the method of transport.
